Honorable Mention: The Ex-Abortionists

hands could work all day – no blisters and no pain
fingers were clasping and unclasping
went completely limp

 

we walked in the laboratory every day
heard a skull being crushed
saw the precise ways identifiable parts are
reassembled
each morning staring into the darkness
carrying a baby down a corridor

 

just couldn't look at them any more

 

all the empty swings on a
playground where in the end death was the winner
